How to Download Instagram Reels in 2026

Reels disappear from your feed faster than almost any other format. If you want to keep one — a recipe, a workout, a clip you made yourself — saving it locally is the only reliable way.

Copy the Reel link

Open the Reel in the Instagram app or on the web. Tap the share icon (the paper plane), then choose Copy link. On desktop, the address bar already holds the link you need.

The link looks something like instagram.com/reel/XXXXXXXXX/. Anything after the question mark is tracking data and can be ignored.

Paste and download

Paste the link into the box at the top of this page and press the download button. The Reel is fetched, and you are shown the available versions — usually one or two video resolutions plus an audio-only option.

Pick the resolution you want and the file saves straight to your device. Nothing is installed and no Instagram account is connected at any point.

Which quality should you choose?

Instagram re-encodes everything that is uploaded, so the highest option on offer is the best version that exists — there is no hidden original to recover. If you plan to re-edit the clip, take the largest file. If you only want to watch it later, a smaller one looks identical on a phone screen and saves storage.

Audio only

If it is the sound you are after rather than the picture, choose the MP3 option. This is the usual route for saving a track you discovered in a Reel.

If it does not work

  • Private accounts. If the account is private, the Reel cannot be fetched. This is a deliberate limit, not a bug — private posts are only visible to approved followers.
  • Deleted or expired. Stories expire after 24 hours and Reels can be removed by their author at any time.
  • Region blocks. Some content is restricted by country.
  • An old link. Copy the link again rather than reusing one you saved days ago.

A note on what you save

Downloading is for your own use. Reposting someone else's Reel as if it were your own is a different matter — credit the creator, and ask first if you plan to publish it anywhere.
