How to Download Facebook Videos on Phone or Desktop

· john26real How-To Guides

Facebook makes the video link harder to find than most platforms, especially in the mobile app. Once you have it, saving the file takes seconds.

Finding the link on desktop

Click the timestamp or the date under the post. That opens the video on its own page, and the browser address bar now holds a clean link you can copy.

If you copy the address while the video is still playing inside the feed, you may capture a link to the feed rather than the video. That is the single most common reason a Facebook download fails.

A browser window with a cursor pointing at the timestamp under a video

Finding the link in the app

Tap the three dots in the top corner of the post, then Copy link. If you do not see that option, tap the timestamp first to open the video on its own, then try again.

Short fb.watch links work fine — there is no need to expand them first.

Paste and save

Drop the link into the box at the top of this page. You will be shown the available resolutions, typically SD and HD, plus an audio-only option. Choose one and the file downloads directly.

What cannot be downloaded

  • Private posts. If the video is only visible to friends, or to members of a closed group, it cannot be fetched. Visibility is enforced by Facebook, not by the downloader.
  • Videos requiring login. If opening the link in a private browser window prompts you to log in, the download will fail too.
  • Removed videos. A valid-looking link can point at something that no longer exists.

A quick test

Open the link in a private or incognito window before troubleshooting anything else. If the video plays there without a login, it will download. If it does not, no tool will help — the content is simply not public.

Quality notes

Facebook compresses uploads aggressively, so the HD option is usually the only one worth taking. The SD version is noticeably soft on anything larger than a phone screen.
